Gemma has been writing songs since a very early age and went to her very first studio over 11 years ago in White City. She released her first garage tune in 1996, called 'REAL LOVE' and performed and at a few venues around town. In 2001, Gemma took her music career to another level, by joining Middlerow and releasing her first proper release 'So Messy', which was a big tune at the time. It was play listed on BBC 1Xtra and was constantly on pirate radio. 'So Messy' sold over 5000 units in a time where people claimed the death of UKG - yeah right!!!
Because of the success of 'So Messy' and with a demo album under her wing, she was offered a deal, by several labels, but decided to sign up to Polydor. In 2002 till 2003, Gemma started recording for her debut album which also was entitled 'Messy'.
Gemma recorded with The Hoodrats, Chucky Thompson, Jonny Douglas, Midi Mafia, Punch, and Rob Ref Tulow. After deciding the lineup for her debut, Gemma went on to record her tracks with fellow artists J2K, Rodney P, Jim Jones, MC Lyte, Juelz Santana and Biz Markie.
'Girlfriends Story', featuring MC Lyte, was Gemma's first release in the UK, and was greatly received. With playlists on Kiss FM, Choice FM, BBC 1Xtra, Galaxy FM, MTV Base and most music channels. 'Girlfriends Story' was about domestic violence, and because of the song content, Gemma was approached by Womens Aid to become a patron of their Charity. The album 'Messy', was given 5 star rating by most music magazines, ie Hip Hop Conection, Dj, Touch and RWD to name but a few.
Gemma also performed on MTV's Brand Spanking New, along with J2K and Rodney P, which went a storm. The event was hosted by Trevor Nelson and Alesha from Mis-Teeq. Gemma and featured artist, J2K, then went on a 6 week UK Tour, performing tracks off her debut album. Gemma's next release was to be 'Gone' featuring Juelz Santana, but for reasons beyond her control, it was never released. However, she did shoot a video with the J2K version, which also got massive support by Trevor Nelson, Radio 1 etc.
Gemma performed in Ibiza in 2004 for the Galaxy FM live broadcast plus another time with Puff Daddy. She has also performed in Greece, alongside Rodney P and DJ Samari. Gemma also has performed in places like Denmark and Ireland.
After deep consideration, Gemma decided to leave Polydor as she feels the communication between both parties had broken down, and was not working well for both parties. Since her departure, Gemma was nominated for BEST NEWCOMER at the 2004 MOBO AWARDS. Also nominated for BEST NEWCOMER AND BEST RNB ACT at the 2004 UMA'S, which she won BEST RNB ACT. Gemma was also nominated for BEST FEMALE ACT at the 2004 Y2K AWARDS, which she won.
Since then Gemma has been working on various different projects, including a track called 'Charge' produced by Statik, of which Gemma featured on his album 'Connections' released late 2005.
